US short line operator expands in New Hampshire
Vermont Rail System (VRS) has entered into an agreement with US class III railroad New England Southern to purchase certain assets and operating rights in connection with railroad freight operations in New Hampshire, USA. State and federal regulatory approvals of the deal are still pending.
VRS operates five short lines in the USA. The England Southern Railroad was founded in 1981 and serves in central New Hampshire, operating White Mountain Branch owned by the state of New Hampshire, with common carrier obligations between Concord and Lincoln. The acquisition is expected to be closed by 30 June 2020. (ben)
