US railroad invests in automated trucking
Union Pacific Railways (UP) will become the first customer to move freight on Tu Simple’s fully-automated trucking route between the Tucson and Phoenix (AZ) metro areas.
UP is leveraging Loup Logistics (Loup), a wholly owned subsidiary, to coordinate freight shipment and support seamless movement between rail and the critical first and last mile.
Starting this spring, technology specialist Tu Simple plans to carry driver out freight for UP, utilising autonomous vehicle technology to deliver goods to their destination faster and more cost-effectively. To date, over 885 km of autonomous driver out operations have been completed on open public roads and in real-world conditions. (ben)
