US-Mexican bridge doubles capacities
Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKCR) has opened the new Ottensmeyer Bridge linking Texas and Tamaulipas. The USD 100 million construction project is the only railroad bridge crossing the US-Mexican border on the Rio Grande. It links Laredo TX (USA) and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas (Mexico).
The bridge doubles capacities at this key border station and is the most secure and efficient railway trade corridor between the two countries.
The 350 m bridge, named after Patrick J. Ottensmeyer, the last president and CEO of Kansas City Southern (KCS) before the two railway lines Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern merged to form CPKCR, is enhanced by border-security equipment. (ben)
