US East Coast on the move
The East Coast port of Savannah moved 5.6 million teu 2021. Its volumes surged by a million teu, or 20%, compared to 2020. In Brunswick, Colonel’s Island Terminal handled almost 650,000 units of cars, trucks and machinery rise of 10.6% in comparison to the previous year.
December 2021, with a record 465,000 teu handled and 312,000 truck gate moves, ended a year that had stretched the port's capacities.
Roll-on/roll-off cargo handled via the Ocean Terminal in Savannah amounted to 668,000 units, an increase of 11% or 65,400 units.
Hinterland connections were expanded in November 2021, an addition of nine working tracks that extend the port’s rail lift capacity to 2 million teu per year, an immediate increase of 30%. In intermodal rail, the Port of Savannah grew by 10%. (sh)
