BNSF has earmarked USD 3.92 billion for capital investments this year. The largest component, USD 2.88 billion, will be used to maintain and service BNSF’s core network and related assets.
Maintenance projects involve nearly 21,000 km of track surfacing and/or undercutting work and the replacement of 585 km of rail and 2.8 million rail ties. USD 440 million has been reserved for the acquisition of new equipment and USD 600 million will be invested in expansion and efficiency projects.
BNSF will continue to expand its intermodal facilities in Chicago (IL). In California, it will pursue its preparations for building the Barstow International Gateway and complete the track improvement project in San Bernardino. (ben)
