US class I railway planning big investments


BNSF is investing USD 3.55 billion in its infrastructure. USD 2.71 billion will be spent to maintain and modernise the core network in USA. The projects include 22,530 km of track surfacing and/or undercutting work and the replacement of 530 km of rail and 2.7 million rail ties.

 

USD 580 million will be invested in expansion and efficiency projects. Between Southern California and the Midwest, BNSF will continue to add several segments of new double-track in eastern Kansas and begin a multi-year effort to add a new segment of triple-track in California.

 

BNSF will also continue a multi-year bridge project in Idaho and pursue multi-year intermodal facility projects in different states. (ben)
