US airlines increase freight volumes abroad
Completing the data analysed on p. 13 of today's ITJ 09-10/2021, US airlines carried 1,854,000 t of cargo in December 2020 (preliminary), which is 17% more than in December 2019.
The rise was fuelled by gains of 16% in domestic cargo and 20% in international cargo, according to data filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) by 15 of the leading US cargo airlines. They carry 95% of the total cargo by weight (freight and mail) on US airlines.
For the pandemic period of May 2020 through December 2020, US airlines carried 1,339,000 more tonnes of cargo than in the same period in 2019, up 11%. They carried 13% more domestic cargo and 6% more international cargo. Thanks to the highest monthly increase throughout 2021, even the whole year's amount was above (+0.4%) than in 2019. (ah)
