Ural Steel gets rail upgrade

RZD Logistics has implemented a rail-based transport solution to ensure raw material supply for Ural Steel. Limestone deliveries from the production site to the steel plant are now routed via a dedicated loop line between Novoorsk and Novotroitsk in the Orenburg region (Russia).

The solution includes customised timetables, provision of rolling stock, shunting with RZD’s own locomotive, and wagon weighing services. According to Andrey Repin, director of the Chelyabinsk branch of RZD Logistics, delivery times have been reduced from three days to just 1 hour 35 minutes by switching from road to rail, and digital acceptance processes also cut handling time by over three hours. Repin expects the monthly rail volume to reach up to 50,000 t. (js)
