Upwards in UK
In 2022, DP World witnessed a 5% rise in the volume of trade handled by its two hubs in UK. London Gateway, consolidating its position as Britain’s second biggest container terminal, reported a 14% rise in volumes, passing the threshold of 2 million teu (2,053,000 teu). Jointly with Southampton, the two terminals handled almost 3.9 million teu, compared to 3-68 million 2021. Throughput thus marked a new peak in 2022.
Ernst Schulze, UK chief executive of DP World, commented on the outlook: “Within a decade, London Gateway is likely to be handling up to 30% of the country's containerised trade." He stressed that investments in Southampton are underway, "improving its infrastructure and introducing warehousing facilities for our customers".
Over the last ten years DP World has invested GBP 2 billion in UK and earmarked a further GBP 1 billion of investment in the decade to come. (sh)
