Upgrades for Stockholm Norvik underway
The container terminal of Hutchison Ports in Stockholm Norvik Port is expecting the arrival of two new super-post-Panamax cranes. The container cranes began their journey from Shanghai (China) on 10 January and will arrive for installation at the new port at the end of March 2020.
With this upgrade, Stockholm’s new freight port - the Stockholm Norvik Port - will be able to handle the largest vessels operating in the Baltic Sea to date. Just over 80 m high, the container cranes can handle a width of 22 container units and lift 65 t.
“With these two super-post-Panamax cranes we will be able to welcome the largest vessels in the Baltic Sea and, offer our customers efficient handling and service in cooperation with Hutchison Ports,” says Nicklas Ebersson, marketing manager cargo, at Ports of Stockholm.
The container terminal at the Stockholm Norvik Port will open in May and will be run by Hutchison Ports. The container terminal operator runs 52 ports in 27 countries worldwide. (mw)
