Upgrades for 13 Canadian short lines
Short line railways play an important role in getting Saskatchewan's food, fuel, and fertilisers on their journeys to worldwide markets. To keep the transport system running, the government of the Western Canadian province has approved a CAD 530,000 (EUR 360,000) investment to modernise the infrastructure.
The money will help assist with track upgrades and expansion, improvements for crossing surfaces and sightlines, bridge maintenance, track rehabilitations and more.
Provincial grants will provide up to 50% of project costs and will be based on how much track each short line owns. Saskatchewan has 13 short line railways operating on 2,123 km of track. (ben)
