Up to 400 trucks to be shifted to rail
The manufacturer Soprema recently joined forces with Fret SNCF, the railway operator ACPMC and the port of Strasbourg to reactivate an old train line between Strasbourg and Rouen in France.
Soprema can now ship its raw materials and finished products by rail on the east-west connection between its factory in Alsace and its depots in the Paris region and the west of the country.
From the depots, the goods are transported the last mile by road. Rail transport can save 200 to 400 truck journeys and 50% of greenhouse gases. The manufacturer plans to continue this initiative and shift more transports from road to rail in the near future. (ben)
