United Cargo makes Cape Town debut with WFS
United Airlines has chosen Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) as its cargo handling provider for the first-ever nonstop service by a US carrier between New York EWR and Cape Town, South Africa. WFS has been awarded a three-year contract to serve its three-times weekly B787 flights, scheduled from 15 December 2019 until 28 March 2020.
WFS handles over 65,000 t of cargo a year at its handling operations in Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa. This new contract follows an announcement made last month that WFS had become the country's first air cargo handling company to be awarded GDP certifications for its temperature-controlled pharma facilities, aligned to ISO9001:2015, at both stations. This resulted from recent investments to update and certify its local pharma handling operations. (ah)
