Ulan Bator Railway faces a serious task
In Mongolia, the Ulan Bator Railway (UBR) has celebrated its 70th anniversary. The railway was established in 1949 on the basis of an agreement between the governments of the Soviet Union and the Mongolian People’s Republic.
Since December 2009, Russian Railways (RZD) has held the trustee rights of the Russian stake in the UBR. "UBR face a serious task to double its volume of freight traffic to 53 million t by 2030. This endeavour will be facilitated by the technical renewal of infrastructure, the introduction of the latest technologies and the use of modern traction and rolling stock," said Alexander Misharin, representative of RZD and UBR, during the anniversary celebrations that took place recently.
