Ukrainian Railways receives licence for Poland
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to launch comprehensive transport services in Poland by 2025, now that the relevant licence has been issued for Ukrainian Railways Cargo Poland, an affiliate which Ukraine’s state-owned railway founded in Poland already last year.
In a first step, the cargo division will primarily serve as a Ukrainian-Polish border railfreight operator to avoid having to conclude numerous contracts with different companies. It plans to introduce a direct door-to-door transport service under one management, enabling efficient operations at all border crossings with Poland.
For a smooth cross-border service, the new affiliate aims to operate rolling stock for track widths of both 1,435 mm and 1,520 mm, reported the local media, quoting a Ukrzaliznytsia press release. (ben)
