UK: Tinsley Rail Yard reopened
Freight forwarder Newell and Wright has reopened an unused rail terminal which is located half in Rotherham and half in Sheffield.
The Tinsley Marshalling Yard was once the rail hub of the borough, home to over 200 locomotives. However, due to its decline in the early 80's, the site had become wasteland until this year’s resurrection.
The British forwarder recently welcomed the first train in the yard from Maersk, after two months of intense manual labour, resurfacing, inserting new rail tracks and working on the roads which enter the site.
According to Newell and Wright, the re-opening represents just the start of a huge investment into railfreight. (ben)
