UK radiologists about to stare at nothing
In the event of a no-deal Brexit, the UK's major radioisotope suppliers have committed to six-month airfreight contracts as a contingency to allow them to increase the quantity of products flown in, rather than run the risk of road transport delays.
The Royal College of Radiologists, the British Nuclear Medicine Society and the UK Radiopharmacy Group have raised questions over the logistical timing of these future flights into the UK and onward transport of the radioisotopes to hospitals.
To provide them with some standard guidance on contingency pathways for nuclear scans and isotope treatment options, the clinicians have now published advice to help services produce individual risk assessments, emphasising the importance of communication and supply networking between hospitals.
