UK: DfT tables outlook up to 2050

The UK's Department for Transport (DfT) has launched Maritime 2050, the first long-term strategy developed in partnership with industry. The government emphasised the importance of the maritime sector to Britain’s future success.

That importance has only increased in the context of the UK leaving the EU, with 95% of all UK trade being enabled by the sector.

Britain's maritime industry invests heavily in infrastructure. Ports alone have over GBP 1.6 billion of investments in the pipeline. The Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling MP, recently launched Maritime 2050 on board the City Cruises’ "Millennium Diamond" on the Thames. (kd)
