UIC: intermodal transport registers exponential growth
Unaccompanied intermodal transport (UIT) is the only segment that is growing in Europe’s railfreight transport market. The sector has registered a steady upward trend since the 2009 global economic crisis.
Over the past two years, this steady increase in demand for UIT services became noticeably stronger than a few years ago, according to the UIC’s latest intermodal transport report.
The report also revealed that over 22 million teu were hauled by intermodal rail/road transport services in 2017, 7.3% more than in 2015. (ben)
