UECC use of biofuel rises

United European Car Carriers (UECC) is set to surpass its 45% emissions reduction target by 2030 after significantly increasing biofuel usage in its fleet. Last year, UECC more than doubled its use of ISCC-certified sustainable biofuel B100, reaching 14,000 t, which contributed to a total emissions reduction of over 60,000 t, with biofuel alone accounting for 40,000 t.

This is part of UECC's broader strategy that includes five LNG-fuelled newbuilds and increased biofuel usage. The company's current fleet has achieved substantial emissions reductions, benefiting from EU emissions trading system incentives and exceeding future regulatory requirements.

UECC is also exploring alternative carbon-neutral fuels such as bio-LNG and e-LNG to enhance its environmental performance further. The adoption of alternative fuels has expanded, covering 30% of its fleet in 2023, with plans to reach 50% this year and 80% by 2030. (pb)
