UAV Latam banks on drones
German drone delivery pioneer Wingcopter is partnering with UAV Latam, a Latin American holding with over ten years of experience in the unmanned aerial vehicle space (UAV) and offices in seven countries.
Through this alliance, Wingcopter will work with UAV del Peru, a subsidiary of UAV Latam, deploying the Wingcopter 198, its new flagship unmanned aircraft system (payload: 6 kg, range: 110 km), to carry out drone delivery operations for local clients.
UAV Latam is planning to use these cargo drones, for example, to provide access to medical products to hard-to-reach communities in the Peruvian Andes. If the venture is successful, the airline may expand the service to other countries of the region at later date.
Since UAV Latam's pilots are already Wingcopter-trained, the company will be one of the first in Latin America to utilise delivery drone technology for commercial and humanitarian applications. (ah)
