UAE lays track in Al Dhafrah
In the UAE, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed has inaugurated the track laying works across the Al Dhafrah region for the 1,200 km long Ethihad Rail project. The stretch is part of the railway construction Package A which will connect the UAE rail network to Al Ghuwaifat on the Saudi border and the wider GCC region.
To date, 59 % of the work on Package A has been finalised with around half of all soil preparation works complete, and 79% of sand removal and rock clearance is also finished.
"The project aligns with one of the most important pillars of the UAE’s preparations for the next fifty years, and is a major contributor to the growth of the national economy, as the development of a national railway network enables a sustainable transport sector," the Sheikh said. (ben)
