UAE and Pakistan clinch port deal
AD Ports Group and Karachi Port Trust have signed a 25-year concession agreement for bulk and general cargo operations at Karachi Port, Pakistan. The joint venture, Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose Limited, will manage berths 11-17 at the East Wharf, aiming to enhance Karachi's maritime industry role.
The agreement allows for the development and operation of 1,500 m of quay wall for general cargo and bulk operations alongside the container terminal. The partners plan to invest approximately USD 75 million in the first two years and a total of USD 100 million within five years to improve the port’s efficiency and capacity so that it can handle up to 14 million t per year.
