Two Wah Kong vessels equipped with CCS
Bureau Veritas (BV), a testing, inspection, and certification company, has issued an approval in principle (AIP) to a Hong Kong shipowner, Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings, and to a subsidiary of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute, Qiyao Environmental Technology. The AIP applies to a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project onboard two Wah Kwong vessels.
Qiyao president Jianfu Dong: “We are proud to receive this AIP from Bureau Veritas, which confirms the viability of our carbon capture technology as a retrofit solution to reduce CO2 emissions from existing ships.”
This CCS technology is in compliance with the IMO’s Carbon Intensity regulation. BV is supervising the project, from vessel selection in the early stages of the project, to the design layout of the CCS system on board, certification ,and cost analysis. The vessels delivered are safe such as the equipment onboard. (lh)
