Two North American rail carriers join forces
Canadian National Railway (CN) and Norfolk Southern (NS) are launching a new domestic intermodal service, beginning on 2 October 2023.
The service will link CN-served Canadian markets with Norfolk Southern-served Kansas City and Atlanta in the American Southeast. The carriers will use new intermodal steel wheel interchanges in Detroit and Chicago to operate like a single-line intermodal product.
The new route converts truck traffic to long-haul rail which helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Integrated rail interchanges also provide customers with the opportunity to optimise their cargo loaded weights, the two railway companies said. (ben)
