Two more terminals
Norfolk Southern already serves the Florida East Coast Railway terminals in Titusville and Miami. Now two of the partner’s intermodal locations in between have also been served since 2 October. From there, trade can connect with California.
Norfolk Southern (NS) has complemented its network on the east coast of Florida by adding links to and from the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) intermodal terminals located in Fort Pierce and Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades). The pan-USA railfreight operator already offers connections to maritime transport links there in the ports of Miami, Titusville (Orlando) and Jacksonville. The new step is intended to give joint customers more flexibility in their operations.
Direct links to pan-USA markets
NS thus also provides direct links between FEC terminals on the one hand and markets in Chicago, Cincinnati, Harrisburg, Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Lathrop and Southern California.

Two-way tracks
Luis Hernández, FEC’s vice-president for intermodal services, added that “we at the Florida East Coast Railway are poised to reach additional markets on the east and west coasts of the USA by expanding our already strong relationship with Norfolk Southern. It’s a good time to work together to improve the FEC’s access to key US cities with reliable and safe services that also go easier on the environment.”
In fact, collaboration between the FEC and NS allows US shippers to unload their goods closer to Florida’s largest markets. This reduces motorway toll costs incurred by trucks on highways, as well as the emissions that they cause.
In addition, the FEC has exclusive railway access to the maritime ports of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, which helps to expand the inter-national perspective of shippers from the USA and beyond.
