Two Miami terminals in temporary closure
The ebb of import container volumes to the USA, mainly caused by the shutdown of Chinese ports in February, led two terminals in the port of Miami to close their gates for a limited period of time.
While the South Florida Container Terminal (SFCT) gate kept its gates closed for one day, the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company (POMTOC) announced on its website that it will be closed on 23 March and 24 March this week.
As a reason, the terminal's website spoke of “extremely low import volumes caused by blanked vessel sailings.” The pick-up of volumes in Chinese ports has not made its way to Florida, yet. The port of Miami, which declared on 14 March that "on the cargo side, our shipping terminals are open for business", is but one of the US ports to be affected. (mw)
