Two for more sustainability
Good Shipping, the global initiative to decarbonise the container shipping industry by changing the marine fuel mix, and DHL Global Forwarding are expanding their five year-long partnership. With its latest purchase of approximately 60 million litres of sustainable marine fuel, DHL will reduce a total of 180,000 t of carbon on both FCL and LCL shipping by 2024.
The group said that this commitment is equivalent to the amount of marine fuel burned by ten container vessels on their journey from Asia to Europe.
In addition, DHL and Good Shipping also aim to pilot a new insetting accounting framework of the smart freight centre. The new framework transfers the approach of allocating emission reductions from sustainable fuels to specific customers by decoupling the accounting of the fuels’ environmental attributes from their physical flow to a general industry standard.
In its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris climate agreement, DHL said that the group will spend EUR 7 billion in sustainable fuels and technologies by 2030. (sh)
