Two Californian short lines to upgrade network

Sierra Northern Railway (SNR) and Mendocino Railway (MRY) will receive a USD 31.4 million loan from the US transport department to expand and rehabilitate rail infrastructure in the Central Valley and Mendocino County in California.

With the funding, which will finance nearly 100% of the planned improvements, SNR will expand its 10.8 km Oakdale Branch track for engine and carriage storage and MRY will rehabilitate the Noyo Canyon Tunnel, 27 bridges and 80 km of track. The project is expected to be complete by 2027 and to increase safety, operating capacity, and efficiency. (ben)
