Turning point on the east-west axis
The Xi'an International Port Area and Swiss intermodal operator Hupac have launched their cooperation aimed at boosting railfreight services between Italy and China. Recently, the first Milan-Xi’an train left the terminal Busto Arsizio-Gallarate in Italy and arrived at its destination in Xi’an, in the province of Shaanxi in north-western China.
This maiden voayage represents a turning point for intermodal transport on the east-west axis, according to Hupac. The Milano-Xi’an Freight Express has a transit time of 18 days.
The long-term goal of Hupac is a weekly frequency. For the current trial period, the train will run on a monthly or bimonthly frequency. (ben)
