Turkish Cargo's first steps at future home base
Turkish Cargo has carried out the first air cargo transport services from Istanbul Airport. The commercial A321 inland flight from the new airport to Ankara took place on 4 February. Another flight - this time an international one with a B737 - went from Istanbul to Lefkoşa (Cyprus) on the same day.
The airline plans to carry out its regular operations simultaneously at both Istanbul Airport and Ataturk Airport as of 2 March 2019, utilising the cargo capacity on passenger aircraft operating from the new Istanbul Airport and its full-freighter operations from Ataturk Airport.
Turkish Cargo will carry out operations on a 165,000 sqm site at Istanbul Airport during the first phase. When all phases are completed, the airline will have an annual cargo handling capacity of 4 million t. (ah)
