Turkish Airlines at expanding Newark airport
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary, has issued a request for proposals to pre-qualified firms to lease, operate and maintain two major cargo buildings at Newark (EWR) through renovations that will dramatically enhance the airport's cargo operations.
EWR is already a major international shipping hub for carriers such as Fedex and UPS. The move is part of the Port Authority’s broader effort to transform its operations to compete in a dynamic, growing air cargo market.
While nearly 40% of cargo currently handled at EWR is shipped in both domestic and international passenger flights, Turkish Airlines is launching a widebody service with A330-300 as from today, 21 May 2021. EWR will be the carrier's tenth US destination. (ah)
