Tunisair: New CEO, better future?
Wassef Ayadi is the new CEO of the aviation company Tunisair, succeeding Elyes Mnakbi (2017-2020), who was relieved from his functions in July 2020.
Ayadi comes with 17 years of experience in the aviation industry, having worked for four years at Airbus Helicopters and having held multiple executive positions at Lufthansa. More recently, he was CEO of IDAIR, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and Panasonic Avionics Corporation.
As Tunisair's CEO, Ayadi takes over a company that is deeply in debt and located in a zone of financial and social instability that has been steadily increasing since the Arab Spring in 2011. The health crisis caused by coronavirus is not making it any better.
But with Ayadi's nomination, Tunisair hopes for a better future with the establishment of the recovery plan, which was already developed last year: It envisages a recapitalisation of EUR 400 million and a renewal of the company's fleet. (amh)
