Tunesia renews 190 km of rail line

With its Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Saudi Arabia will finance the USD 55 million project for renewing and developing the railway network to help increase the capacity for transporting phosphate. The two countries recently signed an agreement to this effect.

The project will help to renew 190 km of the railway network. The loan will also contribute towards Tunisia’s economic growth, by creating direct and indirect job opportunities, in addition to alleviating the burden on the road network and reducing traffic congestion, SFD said. Since 1975, the government entity has financed over 800 development projects worth USD 20 billion in more than 100 countries. (ben)
