Trucks on trucks

A Chinese-operated TIR truck has exported finished Chinese goods with two semi-trailers, each weighing 7,300 kg, for the first time. The vehicles were produced by the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group. Until now, Chinese TIR hauliers had only exported semi-finished goods.

The TIR truck set off after completing its export and TIR procedures in Zhengzhou in central China. The operation was conducted by a Chinese TIR operator, using a Chinese vehicle and TIR carnet for the whole journey, according to the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

TIR trucks cut transit times of such shipments by up to 70% compared with sea freight, and by 60% compared with a combination of road haulage and sea freight. (ben)
