Truck toll hike angers German freight forwarders
The forwarding industry reacted with furious criticism to the coalition committee's decision to significantly increase truck tolls. “The decision to double the truck toll from 2024 is political hara-kiri," said Dirk Engelhardt, spokesman of the board of the German logistics association BGL.
From 1 January 2024, a CO₂ surcharge of EUR 200 for every tonne of CO₂ emitted will be added to the regular toll, which was already increased at the beginning of the year. This is the legally maximum possible plus. Around 80% of the additional income is to be used to expand the rail network.
Government traffic experts expect a total of EUR 20 billion over the next five years. In addition, experts at the ministry of economic affairs are hoping for a push towards electromobility in commercial vehicles. (pm)
