Trolley truck cuts diesel fuel consumption
About a month ago, the freight forwarder Schanz, which is based in Ober-Ramstadt (Germany), added a trolley truck to its vehicle fleet. With the Scania R 450 Hybrid, the driver carries about 110 to 150 t of cargo per day from the headquarters of a paint manufacturer in the lower Odenwald (a mountain range in Hesse) to an eastern suburb of Frankfurt am Main.
On its journeys, the truck uses the overhead contact line of a 5 km long test track on the A5 motorway near Frankfurt several times a day. After the first thousand kilometres, the trial showed that the trolley truck had saved about 10% of diesel fuel.
Germany’s first electric highway for the testing of heavy duty trolley trucks under real conditions was put into operation on 7 May 2019. (ben)
