Trieste augments intermodal connections
Nuremberg in Germany is the new hub in the extended intermodal network of the port Trieste in Italy. The intermodal service will be operated by the Mercitalia Rail-TX joint venture in collaboration with Alpe Adria, the company responsible for the development of intermodal transport services in the port of Trieste.
At the beginning, the new shuttle will run weekly and will be further increased to at least two services per week by 2021.
The complex intermodal project is the result of a long implementation process. At a time when Europe is pursuing border closure policies to mitigate the problems related to the spread of Covid-19, it provides further proof that intermodality in the port of Trieste facilitates the creation of opportunities and ensures connectivity with European industrial and consumer areas of reference.
