Trialling bio-degradable cling film
As part of its overall sustainability strategy IAG Cargo is testing new film to wrap goods for transport. The airfreight division of the International Airlines Group (IAG) is working with the disposal company and film manufacturer Verpa Folie, which has developed an innovative solution of thinner polyethylene films with the USA’s BioNatur Plastics.
The material is 15 microns thick, 100% recyclable and bio-degrades in landfills, enabling IAG Cargo to save 15 t of polyethylene a year. The country receiving the goods wrapped in it will also be able to sustainably dispose of the film. The material has an indefinite shelf life, further preventing waste.
It can also be used for food and temperature-controlled items, which are popular IAG Cargo offerings. (cj)
