Trialling BEVs in Australia’s mines
The two mining companies Rio Tinto and BHP have joined forces to conduct tests with battery-electric haul trucks in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
In the project, BHP will trial Two Cat 793 haul trucks from the second half of 2024, while Rio Tinto will test two Komatsu 930 haul trucks from 2026 at mine sites in the Pilbara region.
These trials represent the first stage of battery-electric haul truck testing at the companies’ operations in this area. The partners aim to reach net zero operational greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. (ben)
