Trial run for double stack container train in India

Indian Railways has completed an inaugural trial run of the double stack freight train on the newly built Rewari-Madar section of the western dedicated freight corridor in the Indian states of Haryana and Rajasthan. The section covers a distance of about 306 km.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India will run freight trains at the maximum speed of 100 km/h. The opening of this stretch will benefit various industries. The trial run tested the BLCS-A and BLCS-B wagon prototypes.

Within a long-haul double stack container train, these wagons have an enhanced axle load of 25 t and can carry four times as many container units as the services currently offered by Indian Railways. (ben)
