Treats that contravene regulations
On 14 April US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists working at Dallas Fort Worth airport intercepted a shipment of prohibited and restricted treats for pets that was manifested as men’s sweaters. The shipment didn’t contain any clothes, but chicken-flavoured lollipops with rawhide stems for pets, shipped from Hong Kong and destined for Highlands TX.
These items aren’t allowed in the USA on account of animal disease concerns. CBP works to prevent the introduction of animal diseases, including the highly pathogenic avian influenza 2, Newcastle disease, foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever and swine vesicular disease. These diseases can harm chicken and turkey flocks and potentially harm pigs. The 93 lollipops were destroyed by steam sterilisation. (ah)
