Transport coordinators to promote modal shift

Vorarlberg (Austria) has more than 20 company-owned sidings. ÖBB, the parent company of the Rail Cargo Group (RCG), and the state of Vorarlberg have decided to cooperate more closely to improve the use of the sidings.

As a first step, the partners want to provide more information and advice for companies on the shift of freight traffic to the railways. They have therefore appointed freight transport coordinators for both parties, Jörg Zimmermann for the state of Voralberg and Michael Bares for ÖBB.

There are also plans to expand the ÖBB terminal in Wolfurt. Around 3 million trucks travel on Voralberg's roads every year, which transport almost 90% of all goods in the state. (ben)
