Transpacific services suspended
Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) is discontinuing an entire service due to reduced traffic on transpacific waters, as a "temporary" measure, the shipping line said.
The Sequoia service is operated as part of the 2M Alliance jointly with Maersk's TP3 loop. It will be merged into the Jaguar service, with the following rotation: Shekou – Nansha – Yantian – Ningbo – Shanghai – Long Beach - Busan. MSC said in a press release that "all cargo currently shipped on the Sequoia service can hence be carried on the Jaguar and Orient services."
Other cancellations mentioned include e.g. CMA CGM's Golden Gate Bridge loop, calling at Taiwan and China and deploying seven vessels of 5,000 and 11,000 teu. These cuts go beyond the regular capacity trimming in the time of the Golden Week but are due to an overall decline in demand on the routes affected. (sh)
