Transmec: solar energy for warehousing
Headquartered in the Via Strasburgo in Campogalliano (Italy), the transport company is currently installing photovoltaic systems in its facilities. This sustainable energy will be used not only to meet the energy needs of the offices but also the warehouses, significantly decreasing the overall environmental impact of all the company's operations, Transmec said.
The project involves the installation of three photovoltaic systems - one dedicated to each warehouse - which will take six months to complete. Each system will be equipped with a total of 1076 photovoltaic modules, generating an annual energy yield of 617.37 MWh. This clean energy production will contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions, resulting in a decrease of 4,146 t of carbon dioxide over the next 20 years.
Additionally, Transmec regularly replaces each vehicle in the fleet to ensure compliance with community environmental regulations and European safety standards, whereby of modern technologies helps to reduce consumption and emissions.
Transmec has also invested in intermodal transport over the last few years. This segment includes group-owned terminals, trains, and trailers. By leveraging rail transport, the company has saved 0.83 kg of CO2/km compared to road transport.
Other key elements of the company’s strategy to promote sustainability are the compliance with legislative regulations, the provision of information and/or training as well as the investment in driver training to promote safe and eco-friendly driving, Transmec adds. (ben)
