Trans-Caspian terminal construction launched


According to press reports, Kazakhstan and Georgia have started to build a terminal in the port city of Poti (Georgia) to enhance freight traffic on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). The total investment is estimated at USD 15 to 20 million.

 

Both parties aim to put the first phase of the project into operation in Q1/2024. The terminal is to process 450,000 teu per year. Since 2011, APM Terminals has acquired nearly 80% of the port.

 

As reported by the Kazakh minister for industry and infrastructure development, Marat Karabayev, over 1.32 million t of cargo were transported via the TITR in the first six months of this year, representing a 77% increase compared to the same period in 2021. (pb)
