Trans–Asia rail sub-route in Bangladesh to open in 2024
Bangladesh has introduced a train service via a newly-built bridge over the Padma river. The 86 km railway line links the capital Dhaka and the city of Bhanga in the east with a connection to Mongla port in the southwest. The line is part of the 172 km Dhaka–Jashore railway.
The stretch between Bhanga and Jashore is still under construction and will open next June. Once completed, the new line will not only establish a 212 km shorter link between Dhaka and Jashore, the country’s government said. It will also establish another sub-route of the Trans-Asian railway network in Bangladesh for freight and container train services along a route which will be free from speed and load restrictions.
