Train with semi trailers trialled in the Baltics
Lithuanian carrier LG Cargo has joined forces with Polish PKP Cargo and the German technology provider Cargo Beamer to pilot an intermodal train with road semi trailers.
A train carrying 22 semi trailers recently arrived at the Sestokai terminal in Lithuania after a two-day trip from Kaldenkirchen near the German-Dutch border. This was the first ever semi trailer transport by freight train in the Baltic States, said Cargo Beamer.
Loaded on a special train wagon technology provided by CargoBeamer, the semi trailers reached Sestokai by the European gauge Rail Baltica, where they were loaded again on to trucks for last mile delivery. (ben)
