Train extends European ferry services
Stena Line has launched its own intermodal train service from Verona, Italy to Gothenburg, Sweden via Kiel in Germany. The service allows customers to book the transcontinental transport from a single source.
The train operates two round trips per week between Verona Interterminal and Kiel Schwedenkai or Gothenburg Majnabbe, with further connections within Sweden and to Norway and comprises 16 double-pocket wagons.
Trade between Scandinavia and southern Europe has always been brisk, and the demand for intermodal services with the combination of rail and ship, the two most sustainable modes, is constantly growing, particularly for steel and forestry products, Stena Lines said. (ben)
