Traffic reshuffle around British isles
Ro-ro traffic between the Republic of Ireland (ROI) and UK has declined significantly post Brexit and is now running at its lowest level since early 2015, according to latest nine-month statistics. ROI-GB volumes were down 20% during Q2 and Q3 of 2021 compared to 2019 figures (more representative than Covid-hit 2020).
UK traffic now accounts for only 67% of all ROI ro-ro volumes, compared to 84% in 2019, while direct ROI – EU traffic has doubled its share from 16% to 33%, already 52% up on full-year 2019. (bj)
